The Role

Are you seeking a challenging, exciting and professionally stimulating role focused on supporting students to achieve their potential?

Comet Bay College is ideally seeking an experienced and highly relational educational leader to provide strategic, curriculum and team leadership across a suite of programs supporting students who experience significant barriers to accessing mainstream secondary education across years 7 to 12. 

The Dean of Inclusion would lead targeted learning support, highly differentiated curriculum provision and alternative learning programs designed to improve student engagement, attendance and educational outcomes.

The College has two programs and the key focus areas of the role of Dean of Inclusion may include, but are not limited to:

• Enrichment program: this offers a highly differentiated curriculum for students who require significant learning support due to diagnosed learning difficulties or social emotional needs. Year 7 and 8 Enrichment classes run with a two teacher for Media literacy, Ethics, Sociology, and History (MESH) model and have Education Assistant support during lessons. In Year 9 and 10 the Enrichment classes have specialist teachers for each MESH class. In Year 11 and 12 the focus shifts to preparing students to achieve Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) and building skills for post school employment or further education opportunities.
• Engagement Hub: In this program students are supported to build foundational skills in literacy and numeracy while developing workplace and life skills, emotional regulation, resilience and personal development. Each student has an Individualised Education Plan that reflects their individual needs, goals and pathway. The focus of this program is to support young people who have already or are at risk of becoming disengaged from school.

The successful applicant will ideally possess the knowledge and understanding of contemporary, evidence-based practices related to pedagogy, curriculum and well-being, and have displayed skills to build inclusive practice, disability, learning difficulties, differentiation and reasonable adjustments.

You should also have highly developed conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to provide innovative solutions to strategic and complex problems and issues along with highly developed leadership and management skills in motivating and developing staff.

Applicants with highly developed verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to undertake consultations, collaborations and negotiations with students, parents, school leaders and other stakeholders are highly desirable.
