While it primarily exists to support schools, it also has an important system-facing role supporting strategy and policy development
The Role
As Principal Consultant, you will be working with the Director of Education and based within the Goldfields Education Regional Office in Kalgoorlie. You will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Department’s Two-way Science program and supporting schools across one of the most geographically diverse regions in Australia. The Goldfields Education Region is Western Australia's largest education region by area, spanning more than 955,000 square kilometres across the south-east of Western Australia. It includes 38 public schools comprising primary, secondary, remote community, district high schools, School of the Air and specialist education settings, serving almost 8,000 students, from Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Esperance through to the remote Ngaanyatjarra Lands on the tri-state border with South Australia and the Northern Territory.
This role provides a unique opportunity to work alongside school leaders, teachers, Aboriginal staff, Elders and community members to strengthen two-way learning approaches and expand the establishment of local Aboriginal languages within public schools. Supporting culturally responsive curriculum design, you will support schools to bring together Aboriginal language and knowledge systems and Western science through authentic co-design and place-based learning experiences.
The Goldfield’s schools are at the heart of their communities, serving students with diverse cultural backgrounds, identities and aspirations. Building strong relationships, respecting local cultural knowledge, and fostering genuine partnerships with Aboriginal communities are central to this role. Regular travel across the region will enable direct support to schools and communities, helping advance high-quality, culturally safe and responsive education for all students.
This role involves planning and coordinating key activities within agreed timeframes, applying evaluation frameworks to monitor program effectiveness, and ensuring sustainable support for participants and schools.
