About the Opportunity
Use your financial expertise to influence major decisions that support Western Australia’s transport future. The Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure is looking for a confident and collaborative Principal Budget Advisor to help shape strategic budget submissions, Budget Papers and resourcing plans that enable meaningful outcomes for communities across the State.
This is an opportunity to work at the centre of high-impact financial planning and decision-making. You will provide trusted advice to Corporate Executive and business areas on Cabinet and Expenditure Review Committee submissions, working with stakeholders to ensure proposals are well-evidenced, accurately costed and positioned for successful outcomes.

About the role
As Principal Budget Advisor, you will lead the preparation and negotiation of budget submissions, strategic initiatives, Budget Papers and Budget Briefing Notes. You will apply sound financial analysis to identify key issues, assess funding proposals, support business case development and contribute to short and long-term financial planning across the Department.
You will also have the opportunity to strengthen financial management capability across the Department by partnering with business areas, sharing knowledge, supporting continuous improvement and helping ensure budget decisions align with relevant accounting standards, legislation and whole-of-government requirements.
About you
- Bring your strategic finance expertise to a role where your advice will help shape important investment, resourcing and budget decisions across the Department.
- Use your experience in financial management, reporting, budget submissions and costing analysis to develop robust, evidence-based proposals that support strong outcomes.
- Build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, working collaboratively to navigate complex budget matters and deliver high-quality advice in a fast-paced environment.
- Apply your communication, negotiation and facilitation skills to influence outcomes, meet strict timeframes and contribute to continuous improvement across the Department.
- Current membership of CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, or the Institute of Public Accountants will be highly regarded.
