About the role

The Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drug (MHAOD) Branch of the Justice Health and Wellbeing Service delivers mental health and alcohol and other drug healthcare to some of the most vulnerable and high-risk individuals in the state.

The Nurse Navigator Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) work in partnership across the WA Custodial settings, MHAOD, Department of Justice (DOJ) Primary health care, state forensic mental service, and community organisations and to support care and coordination of AOD patients within the custodial setting. This role performs dedicated functions within the custodial setting to optimise the requirements of the AOD care journey across the interface of multiple internal and external key stakeholders.

The role is intended to transcend access multiple specialities, support nurse-led integrated service models and augment existing models of care across the Department of Justice and Integrated Health Service reform. The Nurse Navigator monitors and informs the delivery of mental health and alcohol and other drug related interventions, supports and completes high quality clinical reports for Tribunal process, provides the interface between MHAOD, Primary Health and Custodial staff and interagency stakeholders.

Suitability Requirements

Through the recruitment process, we will be looking for a candidate who can demonstrate skills, experience and attributes in relation to the following:

1. Direct Comprehensive Care and Provision of Direct Care

• Provide leadership in professional decision making through the application of advanced clinical skills and health systems knowledge.
• Foster and encourage active patient engagement in the development of health care goals to promote self-management and seek to improve consumer health literacy.

2. Support of Systems

• Provide patient centred care coordination across the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) consumer journey by enhancing system integration and reducing fragmentation and barriers to care.
• Contribute to service development in response to gaps in services identified.

3. Professional Leadership

• Maintain a contemporary knowledge of services at the Department of Justice (DOJ) Integrated Health Service and state level through continuous environmental scanning to ensure community priorities are addressed using the best available evidence.
• Participate and lead innovation and change to develop responses to address emerging service needs.

Eligibility

To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.

Successful applicants must possess a current registration in the category of Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA).

Successful applicants must also have relevant post graduate qualification in mental health, alcohol and other drugs and/or extensive clinical experience in and mental health and drug dependencies.
