Our vacancy

In the role of Librarian, you will provide client-focused library and information services to the Western Australian community, guiding a diverse range of clients to discover and access our unique collections, and supporting clients to build their digital literacy skills to participate in a growing digital-first society.

There is currently:

  • One permanent, full-time (75 hours per fortnight) vacancy (position no. 12246).
  • One fixed term, full-time (75 hours per fortnight) vacancy up to 30/06/2028, with possibility of extension and/or permanency (position no. 15597).
  • One fixed term full-time (75 hours per fortnight) vacancy up to 14/11/2027, with possibility of extension and/or permanency (position no. 15457).
  • Casual vacancies (position no. 15298).

There will also be a recruitment Pool running for a period of 12 months from initial appointment. Suitable applicants will be placed into the Pool which may be used to fill future similar full-time, part-time, permanent, fixed term and casual positions.

To succeed in this role, you will be a motivated and client-focused Librarian, adaptable to working a seven-day roster including evenings and weekends, to be the face of our reference services. With a passion for sharing knowledge and a curious mindset, you will be experienced in providing expert reference services to diverse clientele with strong research and digital literacy. You will also bring strong communication and interpersonal skills, an ability to develop a rapport with a wide range of people, and work effectively in challenging situations.

1. A current CV with two work related referees (with one referee who is a current line manager).

2. A cover letter (to a maximum two (2) pages), demonstrating your experience, knowledge and skills addressing the Essential Work-Related Requirements listed below, as stated in the attached Job Description Form:

  • Work-Related Requirement 2: Sound knowledge of libraries and information service concepts, principles and theory; and an understanding of library systems and practices.
  • Work-Related Requirement 3: Knowledge of current developments and trends in the library and information environment.
  • Work-Related Requirement 4: Competent using digital technologies with an ability to use the Microsoft 365 suite, databases and web resources.
  • Work-Related Requirement 8: Exemplifies personal integrity and self-awareness.

3. A copy of your Bachelor of Arts (Librarianship and Corporate Information Management) or approved equivalent qualification is required. Overseas qualifications need to be assessed for Australian equivalency by a recognised Australian Qualification Framework assessor.
