The Role

As a key member of the KBCHS leadership team, the Head of Learning Area – Arts and Technologies works closely with the Principal and Executive team to provide curriculum and instructional leadership across the Learning Area. The role contributes to the development and implementation of the school’s vision, strategic priorities and improvement agenda, with a particular focus on high-quality teaching, learning and student outcomes across the Arts and Technologies.

As a curriculum leader, the Head of Learning Area provides professional leadership and guidance to teachers, ensuring curriculum, assessment and teaching practices align with SCSA requirements, school priorities and the Whole School Instructional Model. The role supports teachers to develop engaging, contemporary and differentiated programs that respond to the diverse needs, interests and aspirations of KBCHS students.

The Head of Learning Area is responsible for fostering a culture of collaboration, professional growth and continuous improvement, including leading moderation, analysing student achievement and engagement data, supporting effective assessment practices and identifying professional learning priorities. The role also includes appropriate performance management and support to ensure high standards of teaching and learning are maintained.

A key component of the role is to lead innovation and manage change within the Learning Area, identifying opportunities to strengthen curriculum provision, increase student engagement and broaden pathways and experiences across the Arts and Technologies. This includes working collaboratively with staff, students, families, community organisations, industry and other stakeholders to develop authentic learning opportunities and partnerships.

The Head of Learning Area will contribute to the broader leadership and management of KBCHS through school planning, policy development, participative decision-making and the establishment of effective systems and processes. The role provides an important connection between classroom practice, Learning Area priorities and the strategic direction of the school.

  • hold registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia
  • obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.
