About the WAEC
Western Australia is a great place to live, work and deliver elections. And it is getting better as we transform the Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) into a contemporary leader in electoral service, modernising systems, strengthening capability and lifting the experience for voters and stakeholders.
Behind every clear decision, accountable process and well-managed risk is the governance work that helps keep public institutions trusted, transparent and ready. Coordinating policy reviews, preparing committee papers, maintaining registers and following through on actions may not always be visible, but it is essential to how a contemporary electoral commission operates. That is where you come in.
At WAEC, we are guided by four values: Make it Count, Check Every Box, Focus on Fairness and Achieve Together. We are committed to recruiting people whose behaviours, leadership style and approach to public service align with these values, recognising that cultural contribution is as important as technical capability.
If you want your skills in governance, policy, risk and assurance support to count for something bigger, this is your chance to help safeguard trust in democracy.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and motivated professional to join the Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) as a Governance Officer on a fixed-term, full-time basis (75 hours per fortnight) until 31 December 2026, with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.
As our Governance Officer, you will provide practical governance, policy and risk management support across WAEC. Working with the Risk and Governance Manager, you will coordinate corporate policy processes, maintain registers and review schedules, support governance forums, prepare clear papers and reports, and help business areas apply consistent governance, policy and risk practices.
This is a hands-on coordination role for someone who enjoys structure, accuracy and follow-through. You will prepare agendas, minutes, action registers, briefing notes, correspondence and reporting materials; coordinate stakeholder input; support audit and assurance activities; and monitor actions so that commitments are visible, evidence is maintained and issues are followed up in a timely way.
The role sits within the Integrity, Risk and Governance Directorate, in the Capability and Performance Division, and reports to the Risk and Governance Manager.
About You
You are organised, reliable and detail-focused, with the judgement to manage competing priorities and the initiative to keep work moving. You are comfortable working with spreadsheets, templates, records, meeting papers and reporting deadlines, and you understand that good governance depends on clear documentation, accurate records and timely follow-through.
You communicate clearly, build productive working relationships and provide practical support to internal stakeholders. You bring a strong sense of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality, and you are motivated by work that strengthens accountability, transparency, continuous improvement and public trust.
Specific details of the role can be found in the Position Description attached to this advert.
