The role

As the General Manager Mining and Critical Risks Investigations, you will lead a specialist branch responsible for investigating fatalities, serious injuries, and other high-consequence incidents across Western Australia's mining, petroleum, and major hazard industries. As a member of the Investigations Directorate leadership team, you will provide strategic direction, oversee complex and sensitive investigations, and ensure regulatory decisions are evidence-based, ethical, and consistent.

We are seeking an accomplished investigative leader with extensive experience managing complex investigations and leading high-performing investigation teams. You will bring demonstrated expertise in directing major investigations, mentoring investigators, applying contemporary investigative methodologies, and providing authoritative advice on investigative strategy, evidence assessment, and enforcement decision-making.

Success in this role will require strong leadership, sound judgement, and the ability to influence outcomes in complex and challenging environments. You will have a proven track record leading multidisciplinary teams, building organisational capability, and fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement. Experience in a regulatory, enforcement, safety, policing, integrity, or similar investigative environment will be highly regarded.

You will bring expertise in leading complex investigations, legislative interpretation, enforcement decision-making, and organisational leadership within a contemporary regulatory environment. By building a high-performing investigative workforce, strengthening investigative practice, and driving continuous improvement, you will help ensure investigations deliver meaningful safety outcomes. Your commitment to professionalism, integrity, and regulatory excellence will contribute to safer workplaces across Western Australia's mining and resources sectors.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department and across the WA public sector for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a permanent appointment, applicants must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia at the time of application.
