South Hedland Primary School (PS) is seeking a highly motivated and passionate individual to join their team as a Education Assistant - Special Needs (EA-SN). Previous experience is highly desirable. The successful applicant will need to have the appropriate qualifications, Certificate IV in Education Support (or equivalent), or be actively working towards obtaining this Certificate.

The Role

As an EA-SN, the successful applicant will ideally possess the knowledge and experience of working with students with a range of disabilities and learning difficulties, as well as the ability to support student growth, both academically and socially, within the classroom setting. You should display a genuine passion for working with students and have highly developed organisational and interpersonal skills. The successful applicant should be committed to achieving the best educational outcomes for our students. This role requires you to work as part of a dedicated team and provides you with the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to our school community. You may be working across a range of classrooms therefore the ability to be flexible will be an advantage. 

The successful applicant will support students with special needs while working collaboratively with class teachers and other support staff. We are ideally seeking collaborative, team focused individuals who can support students across a range of special needs. We are looking for someone who is innovative and havs strong behaviour management skills, particularly the ability to respond effectively to challenging or complex behaviours.

As an EA-SN, you will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of planned education programs such as occupational therapy, speech therapy and physiotherapy that will help students achieve success whilst supporting the general health and wellbeing of students. Additionally, you will provide feedback on education and therapy programs and will participate in the evaluation process.

1. Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
2. Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
3. Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
4. Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
6. Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
