Holland Street School is seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 3, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Holland Street School is a Kindergarten to Year 12 Education Support School located in Geraldton. We support students with a range of disabilities and individual learning needs, including students who require significant adjustments and support throughout their school day.

The Role

As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and other professionals to support students with their learning, communication, independence, social development and wellbeing.

Every day can look a little different. Depending on the students you are supporting, the role may include assisting with personal care, health and medical needs, mobility and manual handling, communication, learning activities and supporting students with complex behaviours.

Experience or knowledge in the following areas would be highly regarded:

• Positive Behaviour Support and supporting complex behaviours;
• Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Key Word Sign;
• personal care, health and medical support;
• mobility, positioning, manual handling and specialised equipment; and
• assistive technology and Information and Communications Technology to support learning and communication.

We are looking for people who are caring, patient, reliable and flexible, who can build positive relationships with our students and work well as part of a team. Most importantly, you will be willing to get involved in all aspects of the school day and help our students be as engaged and independent as possible.

Completion of, or working towards, a Certificate III or IV in School Based Education Support, or a similar relevant qualification, is highly desirable.

  2. Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute to a professional team and provide advice and evaluation in the development of the education program, including special education and therapy programs where they have been implemented.
  3. Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and wellbeing of students.
