The Role

We are seeking highly motivated Education Assistant - Special Needs to work collaboratively with our friendly and supportive team. As a highly valued member of our school, you should value the importance of establishing and developing positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and caregivers. Suitable applicants will ideally possess an openness to change, display initiative and be solutions-focused; always ensuring you are providing the best learning opportunities for our students.

Ideally, suitable applicants will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to collaborate positively with the teacher to create and maintain an engaging, challenging, and supportive education program to meet the specific needs of the student, is highly desirable. Suitable applicants will, under teacher direction, assist the teacher in the delivery of planned education programs, implement individual or small group programs or demonstrations and be able to provide valuable feedback to support student learning. They will ideally be able to support programs relevant to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Physical Disability, mental health and behavioural needs.

Suitable applicants would work across classrooms, so flexibility is highly regarded. They will ideally be an active team member within the Education Support Program and the Primary program, promoting inclusion opportunities and supporting students in a variety of settings. Suitable applicants will ideally support staff and therapists to ensure students achieve their individual education program objectives. Applicants with skills in working with students using Positive Behaviour Support Strategies and Alternative and Augmentative Communication will be highly regarded.

  • Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
