THESE ARE PERMANENT, FULL-TIME POSITIONS

THESE POSITIONS ARE BASED IN MANJIMUP OR KENSINGTON

APPLICATIONS FOR THESE POSITIONS CLOSE AT
MIDDAY ON MONDAY, 2 NOVEMBER 2026

Forest Management Branch plays a critical role in shaping the sustainable future of WA’s native forests by modelling forest resources, planning ecological thinning, and supporting forest operations. Through advanced remote sensing, natural resource inventories, and disease mapping, FMB monitors forest health across the Southwest. It delivers strategic and operational planning, maintains silvicultural records, and provides expert policy advice and corporate information services - ensuring forest management is guided by science, precision, and long-term vision.

We currently have an opportunity for two Disease and Assessment Coordinators to join our team.

These positions are responsible for leading and coordinating the Department’s Phytophthora dieback interpretation, forest assessment and inventory programs, ensuring high-quality, consistent and scientifically defensible outcomes that support forest management, conservation and operational decision-making. The roles oversee works programming, staff and resource coordination, technical quality assurance, proponent service delivery and workforce development, with operational coordination primarily focused on the respective work centre and area of responsibility. At Level 5, the positions are recognised as a subject matter expert in disease interpretation and vegetation assessment, providing authoritative advice on technical standards, program priorities, operational risks and resource requirements, while undertaking a broader leadership and coordination role across multiple bioregions and the Branch.

At the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), we have adopted Leadership Expectations which provides a common understanding of the mindsets and expected behaviours required of all our employees and the public sector. In this role, you will demonstrate Personal Leadership to help drive positive change.

Selection Criteria

Applicants should address the following four (4) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than four (4) pages in total.

  1. Demonstrated substantial experience at Level 4, or extensive experience at Level 5, as a registered Phytophthora dieback interpreter, together with sound technical knowledge of forest assessment and inventory activities. At Level 5, this includes extensive operational experience across multiple bioregions, highly developed technical judgement and the credibility to provide authoritative guidance on complex work, risks and program priorities

  2. Demonstrated ability to schedule and coordinate dieback interpretation, forest assessment and inventory works programs, including prioritising work, deploying staff and resources, managing competing proponent requirements, monitoring delivery and responding to operational risks. At Level 5, this includes leading complex programs, evaluating performance and implementing improvements to service delivery and workforce sustainability.

  3. Demonstrated ability to supervise, support and develop staff, manage performance and maintain a capable workforce. At Level 5, this includes leading workforce planning, succession, recruitment, development, knowledge transfer and retention initiatives to maintain specialist capability and long-term operational capacity.

  4. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish priorities with proponents, communicate technical and operational requirements, resolve issues and provide sound advice. At Level 5, highly developed communication, negotiation and influencing skills, including the ability to provide authoritative advice and build productive relationships across branches, regions and stakeholder groups.

Note: Current registration as a Phytophthora dieback interpreter, with the ability to maintain registration while occupying the position is an essential requirement.
