About Finance

As part of the Capability and Performance Division, the Finance Directorate drives the delivery of financial planning, management, and accounting services for CITS. It plays a critical role in enabling strategic decision-making by providing expert advice, guidance, and reporting that supports the achievement of financial business plans and operational outcomes.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic finance leader to join our team as Director Financial Accounting. In this key leadership role, you will lead the delivery of financial accounting and statutory reporting services for the Department and nominated Statutory Authorities, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, Treasurer's Instructions and Australian Accounting Standards.

Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, you will provide expert advice on complex accounting, taxation and financial reporting matters, while leading a high-performing team responsible for financial governance, statutory reporting, financial systems oversight and transaction processing. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining strong financial controls, managing relationships with the Office of the Auditor General, and driving continuous improvement through technology, automation and process innovation.

In this role, you will lead the Finance Systems function, overseeing the administration and optimisation of TechnologyOne and associated financial platforms. You will provide leadership to a high-performing team, ensuring finance systems deliver reliable information, strong governance outcomes and compliance with financial management requirements.

As a member of the Finance leadership team, you will also contribute to strategic planning and organisational initiatives, ensuring financial accounting services are responsive to business needs and aligned with whole-of-government requirements.

The successful candidate will possess:

• A bachelor level qualification in finance, accounting or related discipline and current membership of a professional accounting organisation within Australia.
• Substantial experience and skills in the use of contemporary financial management systems with strong skills in data analysis, and a high level of conceptual and analytical ability to solve complex problems.
• Extensive experience in applying accounting standards, financial management legislation, policies and frameworks, including the development and implementation of accounting policies, preparation and analysis of financial statements, and the effective use of financial management information systems within large and complex organisations.
• A high level of stakeholder engagement skills including the ability to build relationships with senior managers and ability to influence strategic and tactical decisions.
• Significant experience and well-developed skills in leading and managing teams.

We have one permanent, full time (75hrs p/f) position available.
