This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2026
Located in the Central Kimberley Region between Broome and Kununurra, most students come from the town of Halls Creek and the communities of Mardiwaah Loop and Nicholson Block. A few students commute from several family communities within 20km of Halls Creek, Koongie Park Station (20km) and Lamboo Station (40km).

Halls Creek DHS has an enrolment of approximately 320 students across the Kindergarten to Year 12 campus, with a 98% Aboriginal enrolment. The Role
Halls Creek DHS is seeking a vibrant and skilled educational leader. For this pro-active role, it is expected you will be a strong educational leader who is able to work collaboratively with school staff and the wider community to ensure the highest standards of achievement for all students
The successful applicant will work with the principal and staff to review, plan, and implement effective strategies that promote the school’s values, beliefs and priorities. You will ideally have a sound understanding of collaborative practices as well as the ability to work as a team member within a professional learning culture in order to achieve high educational outcomes for every student. As Deputy Principal you will support the Principal in promoting the shared vision and core values of the school reflected in the school business plan and the strategic direction across the school community
We are looking for an applicant with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, who is committed to achieving exceptional outcomes for all students. You will ideally be an inspirational leader who is able to manage complex situations, provide support and direction to teachers and students, effectively manage resources and have administrative abilities. Ideally, we are looking for an applicant who has had experience working with trauma informed practice, who is culturally responsive and able to support teachers with behaviour and engagement.

Teachers and school administrators employed at Halls Creek District High School in 2026 are eligible to receive a temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $3 000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
