We are seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principals for permanent and/or fixed term, full-time vacancies which may arise during the 2027 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Christmas Island District High School is located 360 kilometres southwest of Java and 2600 kilometres northwest of Perth. We cater for approximately 300 students from Pre-primary to Year 12 on our main site and more than 20 Kindergarten students at the Tom Patterson Kindergarten Centre.
Our school is well resourced, and extra support is provided to classes in the areas of literacy, numeracy, as well as pastoral care. Our commitment to valuing the home languages of the island means that students are offered the opportunity to learn either Mandarin or Bahasa Malay languages.

The Role
The Deputy Principal will build staff capability through coaching and mentoring, lead the analysis of student and whole-school performance data, and support targeted differentiation to improve student progress and achievement. An innovative and evidence-informed approach to improving outcomes is highly important to succeed in the role. The position may include a teaching load of up to 0.4 FTE.
In collaboration with the Principal, the Deputy Principals provides educational leadership across the school and community, promoting the school’s vision, values and priorities. They would build strong relationships with students, staff, families and the wider community and foster a positive school culture that supports engagement, wellbeing and learning.
The Deputy Principal supports the development and implementation of the school’s strategic and operational plans and assists the principal to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Department policies and procedures. The role also contributes to the effective management of financial, physical and human resources.
A key focus is strategic leadership of the senior school, including curriculum, course and cohort management, student wellbeing and pathways. Responsibilities include senior school data and reporting systems, development of the Kindergarten to Year 12 timetable, and leadership of Vocational Education Training (VET) programs and Registered Training Organisations (RTO) partnerships to ensure students are supported to achieve successful pathways beyond school.
