The Public Sector Commission is on a mission to create an innovative and future fit public sector for all Western Australians.

This position is part of the Data Reform team that shapes and delivers workforce data reform initiatives through data engineering and reporting governance and delivers the Public Sector Census.

The team works with large and complex workforce data collections to support insights into the size, shape and composition of the public sector. These insights help agencies deliver better and more timely services to the Western Australian community.

Our team now needs someone to help us strengthen how workforce data is collected, transformed, governed and delivered as structured and reliable data assets.

You will design, develop and maintain data pipelines, validation rules and transformation workflows that apply automation and optimisation techniques to improve workforce data collection, transformation and reporting processes.

You will use contemporary tools and programming languages to build high quality, reusable data assets that support workforce insight, policy development and service improvement across government.

You will apply data governance, privacy, security and access controls in all work, manage sensitive workforce data appropriately and contribute to continuous improvement in collection methods and data handling practices.

You will maintain metadata, data dictionaries, transformation logic and technical documentation to support data infrastructure governance, transparency and reuse.

We are looking for someone with experience using contemporary tools and programming languages such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services, Databricks, SQL, Python, R, Power BI or similar to design, build and maintain data pipelines, transformation processes, semantic models and structured datasets that support reliable reporting and analysis.

You will have experience developing validation rules, reconciliation checks and data quality controls that identify missing, inconsistent or duplicate data and improve the accuracy, timeliness, integrity and reliability of reporting products.

You will communicate technical information clearly and can explain data requirements, transformation logic, data quality issues and reporting outputs to technical and business audiences.
