This is a Permanent Full-Time appointment working 76 hours per fortnight.

Area Profile

The WA Country Health Service (WACHS) Great Southern region covers 39,007 square kilometres along Western Australia's south coast. The Great Southern is renowned for its spectacular natural environment, including rugged coastlines, pristine beaches, forests, wildflowers and mountain ranges. Albany is the regional hub and is supported by a network of health services throughout the region including Bremer Bay, Denmark, Gnowangerup, Jerramungup, Katanning, Kojonup, Plantagenet, Ravensthorpe and Tambellup.

Great Southern Mental Health Service (GSMHS) provides specialist inpatient and community mental health services across the region through multidisciplinary teams based in Albany and Katanning.

Position Profile

The Clinical Nurse Specialist - Mental Health Older Adult is responsible for the assessment, planning, case management and delivery of clinical mental health care to complex older adult consumers within the Lower Great Southern region. The position provides specialist clinical, consultancy and educational services to clients, carers and primary mental health care providers, while acting as a clinical resource and leader within the multidisciplinary team.

Suitability Criteria

We are seeking an experienced and motivated clinician who can demonstrate:

  1. Extensive experience and advanced clinical knowledge in the assessment, treatment, crisis intervention and case management of older adults with complex mental health disorders, including the application of evidence-based interventions and relevant mental health legislation.
  2. Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team, utilising strong communication, negotiation, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to achieve positive outcomes for consumers and stakeholders.
  3. Clinical leadership experience, including the provision of clinical supervision, staff support, performance development and fostering a positive team culture.
  4. Understanding of legislative and professional practice requirements, together with the ability to deliver culturally responsive mental health services and effectively engage with government, non-government and community support services.
