Position Profile: Provides advanced community mental health services to clients of the KMHDS which is based on best practice. Provides a service, which is culturally secure and takes into account the emotional, social and spiritual well-being of clients. Conducts Mental Health and/or drug and alcohol (AOD) Triage, acute initial assessments, Risk Assessments crisis intervention, care management planning and implementation of care plan and referral services to clients and their carer/s. Role may be Triage or Case Management.
This is a Permanent appointment at 76 hours per fortnight.
Area Profile: WACHS Kimberley is the most northern health region of WACHS. The Kimberley region has approximately 200 Aboriginal communities, over 34 different Aboriginal language groups and 45 percent of the population are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. WACHS Kimberley consists of six hospitals, an inpatient mental health unit, three Community Directorates and a Corporate Office. WACHS Kimberley provides hospital, community health, public health, remote area health, community aged care, and mental health services across the region through a dedicated team of medical, nursing, Aboriginal health, allied health, and support staff.

To be successful in this role you will
- Be a qualified and registered Registered Nurse with extensive experience in community mental health nursing and the ability to work independently and as part of a team across community settings.
- Provide high-quality, recovery-oriented and culturally safe mental health care by conducting comprehensive mental health assessments including risk assessment, mental health status examinations and safety planning. This includes delivering evidence based interventions, coordinating care, managing and administering mental health medications safely, and supporting individuals, families, and communities with complex mental health needs.
- Build effective relationships and work collaboratively with mental health consumers, families, carers, multidisciplinary teams, and community and government stakeholders, using highly developed interpersonal and communication skills to deliver culturally safe, person-centred care.
- Practise in accordance with relevant legislation, professional standards, and best practice, demonstrating current knowledge of the Western Australian Mental Health Act 2014, sound clinical judgement, and effective use of relevant clinical information systems.
- Meet the operational requirements of the role, including holding a current C Class Driver's Licence and being willing to travel, including overnight stays, to provide community-based mental health services.
