The Role
The Cleaner in Charge will play an important role in establishing and maintaining a clean, safe, welcoming and well-presented environment for students, staff and visitors at Alkimos Sands Primary School.
We are seeking a proactive, flexible and organised individual who can lead our cleaning team, take pride in our school environment and contribute positively to our school community.
The role involves coordinating and undertaking a range of internal and external cleaning duties, including maintaining carpets and hard floor surfaces, cleaning toilets, furniture and fittings, dusting, window cleaning, rubbish removal and general upkeep of school facilities and grounds. The Cleaner in Charge will also be responsible for overseeing the opening and closing of the school and coordinating vacation cleaning programs, including stripping and sealing vinyl floors, carpet shampooing, pressure cleaning and other scheduled cleaning tasks.
A key feature of our approach is a flexible and responsive cleaning model. Rather than relying solely on traditional split shifts, we are looking for someone who can lead and coordinate cleaning activities and staff during the school day, working safely and effectively around students, staff and daily school operations. This requires adaptability, initiative, sound judgement and a willingness to respond to the changing needs of a busy school environment.
The successful applicant will ideally show a good understanding of occupational safety and health (OSH) practices, including safe chemical handling and storage, hazard identification, risk assessment and management, safe work procedures and the appropriate use of cleaning equipment. They will ideally actively promote a safe working environment, ensuring cleaning practices minimise risks to students, staff and visitors.
As a foundation staff member, the Cleaner in Charge will have the opportunity to help establish effective cleaning routines, systems and standards from the beginning, contributing to a positive, collaborative and flexible team culture.
