Chief Finance Officer

· Enterprise leadership role
· Strategic financial partner to the Chief Executive and Executive Team
· Shape capital, governance and organisational performance with lasting impact

This is a defining leadership opportunity for a strategic finance executive to strengthen The Insurance Commission’s long-term performance and sustainability.

About the Insurance Commission of Western Australia

The Insurance Commission of Western Australia (The Insurance Commission) is a statutory corporation with a unique role in Western Australia’s economic and social infrastructure. The Insurance Commission provides compulsory motor injury insurance for more than 3.5 million registered vehicles, delivers lifetime treatment, care and support for people catastrophically injured in motor vehicle crashes and eligible workplace accidents, and manages the Western Australian Government’s self-insurance arrangements through RiskCover. The Insurance Commission stewards approximately $10 billion in investment assets and almost $6 billion in outstanding claims liabilities, with annual premium and other revenue flows exceeding $2 billion.

The Insurance Commission is focused on strengthening enterprise capability, organisational performance and commercial discipline. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will join the Executive Team as a strategic partner to the Chief Executive and Board, providing leadership across financial strategy, planning and performance, capital management, financial governance, procurement and commercial stewardship. The CFO will play a central role in developing an insight-led finance function, establishing strategic procurement capability and strengthening The Insurance Commission's capital management capability.

The Opportunity

The CFO will provide an integrated view of The Insurance Commission’s financial position, capital strength, balance sheet, long-term liabilities and risk exposure. Working closely with the Chief Investment Officer, the CFO will support alignment between the Insurance Commission's assets, liabilities, liquidity requirements and risk appetite, while providing clear advice and assurance to the Board and Audit and Risk Committee on financial performance, statutory reporting, external audit and long-term financial sustainability.

The role also has strategic oversight of procurement, contract management, facilities and fleet. A key priority will be to develop Finance from a predominantly transactional function into a performance-focused enterprise partner, while establishing a stronger strategic procurement capability. The CFO will set the direction for finance systems, data and processes, using contemporary technology, automation and AI to improve financial insight, efficiency and decision-making.

What You'll Bring

You will bring executive-level strategic finance leadership, with strong capital and balance sheet management experience and the ability to provide clear, forward-looking advice in a complex financial environment. Your commercial judgement will be as important as your technical depth, together with a demonstrated ability to lead organisational performance, influence strategic decision-making and embed strong financial discipline across a large and complex organisation.

You will have experience leading and developing capable teams, building leadership depth and establishing clear expectations and accountabilities. You will be a credible and influential partner to the Chief Executive, Executive Team and Board, with the judgement and relationship skills to engage effectively with Government and other key stakeholders.

A relevant tertiary qualification and professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA or equivalent) are essential. Experience in financial services, insurance or another organisation with comparable balance sheet complexity, long-term liabilities and governance obligations will be highly regarded.
