Lead an Industry. Influence Government. Drive Sustainable Growth.

A rare executive opportunity requiring the strategic agility to navigate government and the commercial acumen to deliver sustainable business outcomes.

The Western Australian Meat Industry Authority (WAMIA) is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer.

Established under the Western Australian Meat Industry Authority Act 1976, WAMIA plays a unique role within Western Australia's meat and livestock sector. As an independent statutory authority, WAMIA provides strategic advice to Government, regulates the meat processing industry and owns and operates the Muchea Livestock Centre, one of Australia's leading livestock exchange facilities.

This is a rare opportunity to lead a public sector organisation with significant industry influence, commercial operations and direct engagement with Government, Ministers, industry stakeholders and regional communities.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the WAMIA Board, the CEO will provide strategic leadership across the Authority's regulatory, policy and commercial responsibilities, ensuring the organisation delivers on its legislative functions while positioning itself for long-term sustainability and growth.

Success in this role will require the ability to confidently navigate government processes, work effectively within a Board-governed environment and build productive relationships across Ministers' offices, government agencies, industry bodies and commercial stakeholders.

The CEO will lead organisational strategy and reform, oversee the operation of the Muchea Livestock Centre, provide high-level policy advice to Government and drive initiatives that support a thriving and sustainable meat and livestock industry in Western Australia.

Equally important is the ability to balance public sector stewardship with commercial discipline. The CEO will oversee the Authority's financial performance, identify opportunities to strengthen revenue and cost recovery, maximise returns on significant land and infrastructure assets, and ensure the organisation remains financially sustainable while delivering on its public purpose.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking an accomplished executive who brings credibility, sound judgement and a demonstrated ability to lead complex organisations operating in dynamic environments.

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • Significant experience working within, or closely alongside, government, including navigating public sector governance, legislative frameworks, cabinet, ministerial or parliamentary processes.
  • Strong commercial and financial management capability, including budget oversight, strategic investment decisions, financial sustainability and organisational performance.
  • Experience leading organisational strategy, reform and change in complex stakeholder environments.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across government, industry, community and commercial sectors.
  • Strong governance experience, including working effectively with Boards and providing high-quality strategic advice.
  • A record of delivering outcomes through collaboration, negotiation and influence.
  • Personal integrity, resilience and leadership that fosters a positive, accountable and high-performing organisational culture.

Why Join WAMIA?

This is an opportunity to lead a respected statutory authority whose decisions and initiatives have a genuine impact on Western Australia's agricultural sector and regional economy.

As CEO, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Influence industry and government outcomes at a strategic level.
  • Lead a unique organisation with regulatory, policy and commercial responsibilities.
  • Shape the future direction of the Western Australian meat and livestock industry.
  • Work closely with government, industry leaders and key stakeholders across the State.
  • Drive innovation, sustainability and long-term organisational success.

Location

The Authority’s office locations are Muchea and West Perth, Western Australia. Flexible arrangements may be considered; however, the successful applicant will be expected to maintain a strong presence at Muchea and travel as required to metropolitan Perth, regional Western Australia and stakeholder meetings.

Remuneration and entitlements

This position is classified as CEO Class 2, with a salary point of $222,530 per annum, plus employer contribution to superannuation. The option to participate in the Senior Officers Vehicle Scheme is also provided to the successful candidate.
