Position Profile: The Aboriginal Health Practitioner will be responsible for working with health care teams to provide culturally safe, holistic person-centred clinical care, health education and promotion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Aboriginal people within the Great Southern region. As specified in the summary of duties, these also include working within their scope of practice and considerate of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice Board of Australia professional capabilities.
The occupant of this position is required to demonstrate a positive commitment to modelling our organisational values, safety and quality improvement and the Code of Conduct in all aspects of their employment. Compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, standards and legislation including Confidentiality and Work Health and Safety policies is mandatory.
This is a Fixed Term Term Full Time appointment, with the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency.
Area Profile: The WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is the largest country health system in Australia and one of the biggest in the world, providing health services to approximately half a million people, including 45,000 Aboriginal people, over a vast two and a half million square kilometre area. The organisation comprises seven regions, with a strong network of public hospitals, health services and health centres located across rural and remote Western Australia. Our core business is the provision of quality, accessible health services to country WA residents and visitors.
Suitability Criteria:
Suitability recognises that a range of factors contribute to merit, including skills, knowledge, abilities, behaviours, ethical alignment and relevant operational requirements. The suitability requirements below are derived from the Job Description Form and define what will be assessed to determine your suitability for the role:
- Pursuant to section 50D of the Equal Opportunities Act, the occupant of this position must be of Aboriginal descent.
- Registered in the category of Aboriginal Health Practitioner with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice Board of Australia.
- Demonstrated ability and/or experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to provide primary health care in a hospital, outpatient, community or home settings.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with all levels of health care providers.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and/or as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team.
- Eligible for / or in possession of a current C or C-A class driver’s licence or other specialised licence class and ability to travel within the region as required including overnight stays.
