The Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) is the State’s premier Art Museum. Situated in the heart of Perth’s Cultural Centre, the Main and Centenary Galleries house the State Art Collection of over 18,600 works by renowned local and international artists from the 1800’s to today, including approximately 3,000 Aboriginal works. In 2020, the Gallery celebrated 125 years of operation.
The Art Gallery of Western Australia develops and maintains the best public art collection in the State and the world’s pre-eminent collection of Western Australian art. Our purpose is to preserve, interpret, display and acquire historic and contemporary visual arts. Through our collections, programs and events, we offer visitors exciting encounters with Western Australia art, Australian Indigenous art and the art of the world. The Art Gallery of Western Australia has an established national and international reputation and brings major world exhibitions to Western Australia and takes Western Australian initiated exhibitions to the world.

This position is located in central Perth within the Cultural Centre hub close to the bustling café, tourist and shopping districts.
About the position
AGWA is seeking a highly motivated and passionate person to support the Curator Indigenous Art | Head of Indigenous Programs to exhibit, develop, program, interpret and care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art within the State Art Collection at the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
Conditions
This is a full-time permanent vacancy open to people of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, pursuant of Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.
A current (within 6 months) National Police Clearance is required prior to commencement of employment.
Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, applicants for this position may be considered for ‘similar’ vacancies within the Culture and Arts Portfolio and/or the wider public sector which arise within a reasonable period of time. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Future vacancies may be considered - and fixed term, part time and full time.
