The Role

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated educator to join our team as a Teacher of English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D), with the added responsibility of being the Teacher in Charge of our Intensive Language Centre (ILC). This role is ideal for a dynamic teacher who is committed to supporting students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds and guiding them through their transition into mainstream education.

The successful applicant will ideally be responsible for overseeing the ILC, which caters to students in Years 7 to 10. This includes coordinating excursions and cultural events, developing targeted language programs, and preparing students for successful integration into mainstream classes.

The successful applicant should display a dynamic and engaging teaching style tailored to EAL/D learners and have experience or capacity to teach Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) and/or General English as an Additional Language or Dialect. The successful applicant should ideally build strong, respectful relationships with students, families, and colleagues. They should employ inclusive and differentiated teaching strategies to support language acquisition and literacy development.

The successful applicant should have a deep understanding of second language acquisition and the Western Australian Curriculum. They should be familiar with the EAL/D Progress Map and the use of diagnostic tools to support targeted instruction and use data to inform planning and monitor student progress. Ideally, the successful applicant should be committed to whole-school approaches and initiatives that support EAL/D students and display excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong focus on collaboration and cultural responsiveness.

As Teacher in Charge of the ILC, the successful applicant would:

  • Coordinate and deliver high-quality language programs for newly arrived students.
  • Organise excursions and events that support cultural integration and language development.
  • Prepare students for transition into mainstream classes through targeted academic and social support.
  • Lead a team approach to supporting EAL/D students across the school.
  • Maintain strong communication with families and external support agencies.
