The Role
This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly effective and motivated person to join our team at Cannington Community College. The Home Economics Assistant supports the Department of Education’s main objective of teaching and learning of students, by assisting the teacher and providing classroom level support to enable the delivery of high quality, student-focused learning programs.
Under teacher direction, the Home Economics Assistant may be expected to perform tasks which include; assisting the teacher in the delivery of planned educational programs, assisting with preparation and maintenance of the learning environment by maintaining equipment, materials and resources for use in classes, undertake regular activities in the Home Economics centre such as dusting, cleaning the floor throughout the teaching day, cleaning and tidying of cupboards and refrigerator/freezer, laundering of college items, cleaning stoves and ovens and cleaning windows and walls as necessary. There is also a requirement to clean during the vacation periods (school holidays) which includes thorough cleaning of all equipment; including ranges, defrosting and cleaning refrigerator/freezer, dusting all high ledges, tops and furnishings, cleaning walls and internal windows, cleaning, washing/polishing furniture as appropriate and cleaning inside of cupboards and storerooms, as necessary.
The successful applicant would also perform classroom and administrative tasks which include checking all equipment and reporting any discrepancies to the teacher, assisting the teacher with the care and supervision of students in out-of-class activities and school excursions, assisting the teacher with the general care and well-being of students, including attending to students in need of minor first aid, assisting with the management of resources by maintaining and updating inventory lists, monitoring stock levels and requirements, and reporting these to the teacher and providing administrative support.
The successful applicant will ideally be highly motivated, energetic, enthusiastic, flexible and reliable. They will ensure the learning environment is inclusive and relevant, appropriately resourced and maintained, with the health and safety of the students a high priority.
