Appointment Pool
Caralee Community School is seeking to establish a pool of Cleaner In Charge’s for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2025.
As a team leader, suitable applicants will ideally have good communication and interpersonal skills. You will ideally inspire and lead a team of cleaning staff to ensure the school environment is maintained in accordance with Department of Education policies and procedures. You should have a sound knowledge of cleaning equipment, products and safe cleaning procedures, methods and practices.
You will also provide on the job induction training for all new cleaning staff, conduct monthly cleaning inspections as well as record and respond to issues and concerns detailed in the communications book. You will liaise with the Manager Corporate Services on all cleaning matters and be responsible for monitoring and ordering stock supplies and stocktake of cleaning resources.
Suitable applicants will be responsible for closing the school, including setting the security alarm system, carrying out internal cleaning duties, including the maintenance of carpets and hard floor surfaces, toilet cleaning, furniture and fittings, window cleaning, dusting, rubbish removal, and other general cleaning. You will also carry out external cleaning duties, including the cleaning of verandas and covered areas, rubbish removal, cleaning of drinking troughs, window cleaning and removal of cobwebs.
Additionally, you will be required to complete vacation cleaning duties, which may include the stripping and sealing of vinyl floors, shampooing of carpets, pressure cleaning of verandas and undercover areas, and other such duties as required.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to induct, coordinate and supervise the work of cleaning staff.
- Experience in school or commercial cleaning.
- Experience in the safe storage of cleaning equipment, materials and chemicals.
- Ability to recognise and interpret Material Safety Data Sheets, equipment operating instructions, safety instructions and training guidelines.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s online training in manual tasks and hazardous substances within 3 months of commencement
- complete Fundamentals of Cleaning training as soon as practicable
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
