Teachers and school administrators employed at Meekatharra District High School in 2024 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $17,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.
About the role
We are seeking an individual who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of the children in our community. The successful applicant will ideally be able to show exemplary teaching skills, be highly motivated and enthusiastic. The successful applicant will have the ability to work in a team environment and have a commitment to both play-based learning and explicit teaching. The successful applicant will possess a high level of interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with staff members and implement whole school approaches within the school’s business and operational plans. The successful applicant will ideally have the knowledge and experience to embed whole school programs, including InitiaLit, Prime Mathematics and Positive Behaviour Supports.
The Early Childhood Teacher will ideally be a team player, with an enthusiastic approach to engaging students to do their best and a willingness to learn and adopt a trauma responsive approach and restorative practices. You will be expected to be able to show data-driven teaching practices alongside a play-based approach and a good understanding of how to establish a positive classroom environment, fostering high care and expectations. Ideally, you will have a strong understanding of the core frameworks: National Quality Standards and Early Years Learning Framework.
It is ideal that the successful Early Childhood Educator provides both differentiated and individualised instruction, incorporating proven strategies to support students with special education needs and has experience or a desire to work with students from Aboriginal families and promote pride in self and culture.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements.
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
