About the Role
The successful applicant will ideally have sound interpersonal skills, enthusiasm and the ability to work cooperatively in a Technologies Learning Area team. Sound classroom management, the ability to develop rapport and motivate students, the ability to differentiate curriculum to cater for individual student needs and the ability to practise a range of teaching strategies are highly desirable for this position.
The successful applicant will ideally be a teacher who can engage students and challenge them to achieve their personal best. You should be able to work effectively in a team and independently, while supporting the initiatives and programs in Design and Technology, within Karratha SHS. In addition, you will engage in professional learning and liaise with colleagues, parents, and external networks.
This role involves teaching Design and Technology and Digital Technology from Year 7 to 12.
Karratha SHS has a population of approximately 1300 students and is situated on a state of the art, dynamic and revolutionary campus, which was completed in 2013. Karratha SHS is undergoing major building upgrades, including a brand new multi-million dollar Technologies building. Karratha SHS’s Technologies Learning Area is a vibrant, future focused department that aims to provide the Karratha community with high-quality graduate students. Design Technology is a key pillar in the Learning Area.
Students at Karratha SHS come from all contributory primary schools as well as those from across Australia. Many families move to Karratha and surrounding townships such as Dampier, Point Samson, Roebourne and Wickham to work in the diverse mining, tourism and retail industries in the region.

The Location and Community
Karratha is one of the largest and fastest growing towns in the north of Western Australia (WA) – and it’s easy to see why. Known as ‘Munjaree’ – or the heart of the West Pilbara Coast – its size and central location make it the ideal base for exploring the natural delights of the area – Millstream-Chichester National Park, Karijini National Park, Dampier Archipelago, Point Samson Peninsula and the Burrup Peninsula.
