Kent Street Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of dedicated, talented and innovative Science Teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2023 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2024. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2023 school year, up to the end of Term 1, 2024.
Suitable applicants will be responsible for developing a safe, rewarding, and supportive learning environment for all students. Working in collaboration with other staff, they will ideally have a strong understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum – including knowledge of how to plan, deliver and assess engaging and relevant units of work relating to science.
Suitable applicants should have the knowledge and skills necessary to apply a range of engaging teaching strategies and develop a positive classroom learning environment. Our teachers are dedicated and intrinsically motivated educators, who have the ability to develop and differentiate high quality teaching and learning programs to meet the needs of our students. Suitable applicants will ideally be able to teach students of varying ability levels across Year 7 to 12 in a highly engaging manner and utilise their high-level data literacy skills and monitoring processes to encourage and support our students to achieve outstanding results. Experience delivering senior school Chemistry will be highly regarded, and those with experience in the resources industry and/or experience in the delivery of project-based learning are also encouraged to apply, as our CoRE (Centre of Resource Excellence) program continues to grow.

The learning environment you create should be differentiated, challenging, caring and creative, while catering for a range of needs that sees all students progressing and achieving. You should be able to utilise evidence-based teaching practices whilst employing a range of assessment and reporting methods. You should support the implementation of the school business plan, work and teach in a team environment, and be committed to whole school approaches and initiatives. You should actively participate in professional learning opportunities and continually reflect on your classroom practice to sustain a culture of high-quality teaching and ongoing improvement.

The school's excellent facilities include a swimming pool, a large gymnasium, a performing arts theatre, a dedicated Aviation Centre, two aeroplanes, turf wickets, a trade training centre, eight refurbished science laboratories, a fitness centre and excellent library/learning centre facilities.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements; and
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
