Our team

The Parks and Wildlife Service at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions manages over 31 million hectares of national parks, marine parks, conservation reserves, State forests and other reserves throughout Western Australia. In addition, we are responsible for the management of fire mitigation, weeds and feral animals on another 91 million hectares of unallocated Crown land.

About this role

As Regional Manager Pilbara you will:

  • Support and nurture a culture of safety, teamwork, comradery, professionalism and instill a can-do attitude in your team.
  • Oversee the management of over 3.5 million hectares of conservation estate and provide leadership, support and guidance to approximately 95 staff.
  • Be supported by a district office and District Manager in Exmouth and ranger stations at Karijini National Park, Millstream National Park and Coral Bay.
  • Be required to lead and support extensive engagement with traditional owners, key stakeholders, and leaders in regional and remote communities.
  • Ensure that service delivery aligns with complex and diverse strategic and business priorities.
  • Oversee fire and incident management and visitor risk programs as well as participate in a rostered duty officer role.

The Regional Manager Pilbara is one of one of nine regional managers across Western Australia that support the Executive Director Regional and Fire Management Services to deliver integrated frontline and operational services and programs across the State.

To be successful in this role we are looking for someone with:

  • Evidence of empowering leadership experience in a large multidisciplinary team and substantial competence in long term planning and financial and risk management.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated skills in stakeholder engagement and management with traditional owners and with other leaders working for and in remote and regional communities.
  • Extensive experience in the field of natural land and resource management including conservation, fire management and parks and visitor services.

Selection Criteria

  3. Extensive experience in the field of natural land and resource management including conservation, fire management, emergency management, visitor risk and parks and visitor services.

To be eligible for this role you are required to have Australian citizenship, New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent residency status. You will also be required to possess or obtain a current (not older than 6 months) and satisfactory National Police Check.
