Settlers Primary School (PS) is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative School Psychologist to join their team.

The School Psychologist is an integral member of the school’s Student Services team and works collaboratively with colleagues to maximise outcomes for students. The ability to work in a team environment is ideal, as well as engaging with students, families, and external agencies to establish strong partnerships. The School Psychologist will assist with the development and implementation of school-based support services and programs, conduct assessments and support the development of plans to meet the needs of individuals. They may also be required to provide professional learning to both staff and community in areas such as mental health, behaviour support, learning and student engagement.

Settlers PS is an Independent Public School located 46 km south of Perth, in the fast-growing suburb of Baldivis in Western Australia. In 2023 there are 682 students enrolled from kindergarten to year 6. The school has a campus of five teaching blocks and well-maintained grounds with shared community facilities. Teaching and learning environments reflect a positive and innovative attitude towards maximising learning opportunities.. Behaviour is managed by a positive approach promoting responsibility and respect, built on a strong values-based foundation with a focus on well-being, independence and resiliency.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  1. Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes.
  2. Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention.
  3. High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills.
  4. Highly developed interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Department personnel and inter-agency partners across a variety of contexts.
  5. Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.

Eligibility and Training Requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
  • hold or be eligible for provisional or general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
