The Role

We are seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill two separate roles of Mechanical Rollingstock Technician and Electrical Rollingstock Technician.  Both of these positions sit within the Transperth Train Operations Division, Mechanical Engineering Branch and report directly to the Rollingstock Supervisor.  In these positions, you will carry out routine procedures and electrical/mechanical fault rectification procedures on safety critical components and train systems, and in so doing you will maintain an effective and reliable level of operating performance on the PTA’s Australind and Prospector Rollingstock to meet the Rail Safety Standards and customer expectations.

To be considered for the Mechanical Rollingstock Technician you will have:

  • Experience in the maintenance, repair, overhaul, and inspection of diesel railcars (or similar rollingstock) safety critical components including Wheel Sets, Axel Boxes, Brakes, Suspension, Doors, Couplers, Engines and Transmissions is highly desirable.
  • Experience of inspection and assessment of Rollingstock safety systems including Air Conditioning systems, Braking systems, Door systems, Hydraulic and Pneumatic pressurised systems.
  • Experience in the inspection and fault finding of extra low voltage (24Vdc) rollingstock electrical systems including Door Control systems, components including Starter Motors, Engines and Transmission ELV sensor wiring is highly desirable.
  • Experience in heavy maintenance component renewal/changes including wheelsets, bogies, HVAC’s, engines, transmission, SIV’s, alternators, couplers and cooling group components.

To be considered for the Electrical Rollingstock Technician you will have:

  • Technical Trades experience is essential, qualifications in Electrical Rollingstock will be looked upon favourably.
  • Trade qualified – WA ‘A’ Grade electrical licence and high-risk work license essential. Experience in the maintenance, service, repair, overhaul, and inspection of Rollingstock is highly desirable.
  • Experience with the service and repair of safety critical components such as electric over air pneumatic braking systems, door controllers, couplers, engines and transmissions, automatic train protection (ATP) and communication systems, wiring and fault finding, static inverters, and HVAC systems is highly desirable.
  • Extensive fault finding knowledge and experience over 24VDC, 110VDC, 240VAC, 415VAC Rollingstock electrical systems including HVAC systems, door control systems, and lighting systems and components including power generation equipment like alternators and the diagnosis and repair of 24VDC Engine control wiring OR similar related systems and components.

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool for 12 months from which permanent and fixed term appointments will be made.
