This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2022

Cannington Community Education Support Centre is seeking to appoint a Student Support Coordinator.

The successful applicant will be responsible for coordinating the Student Support Program.  You will research, develop and implement systems, intervention strategies and alternative programs that provide a responsive and effective support service for students, family members and staff. Alongside the School Administration team, you will assist in crisis management by providing relevant and appropriate strategies and support, as required.

The role includes work assessments on students, including liaising with parents/guardians, students, staff and other stakeholders and actively assist teaching staff in the planning and implementation of class and school activities and co-facilitates group work.

Cannington Community Education Support Centre caters for over 100 secondary aged students from Years 7-12.   Independence, achievement and respect are our Centre’s core values. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • well developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills that demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, negotiate and resolve conflict
  • well developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • well developed research, conceptual and analytical skills and experience in identifying problems and developing appropriate intervention strategies and support programs.
  • skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students who are experiencing difficulties.
  • knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • possess a Tertiary qualification in the Social or Behavioural Science area
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
