Greenwood College is seeking to establish a pool of Student Support Officers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2022 school year and up to the end of Term 4, 2022. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2022 school year, up to the end of Term 4, 2022.

Suitable applicants would support students individually and in small groups with challenges they face each day. You will be required to work in a team with the School Psychologist, School Chaplain and Student Services Team to provide wrap around student support. A component of this role will involve you developing links with families to support students at risk. The Student Support Officer will ideally be flexible, adaptable, have the ability to think on their feet, relate well to young people, have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to a wide variety of people. We are looking for someone who is solutions focused who can combine their professional knowledge and experience to support students to positively engage in education.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
  • Effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing prioritises within timelines.
  • Good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
  • Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
  • Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
