The Role and our Branch

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced and committed senior consultant with a strong understanding of vocational education and training to join our team. 

Our Secondary schools, District High Schools and Post-School Pathways branch which sits within the Statewide Services division, provides the services and supports required by schools to enable student achievement, with a focus on those students and schools that need it most. It is currently transitioning to a new service delivery model to strengthen its services and supports to schools and the education system.

This role provides advice and information to regions and schools on matters related to vocational education and training in schools. You will use your expertise to inform system strategies and priorities into practical supports for schools and contribute development, implementation and evaluation of Vocational Education Training (VET) programs in schools. 

Key to this role will be your ability to establish and maintain working relationships and networks with professional bodies and associations and represent the Department’s perspectives on VET in schools. You will provide subject matter expertise and assist with the development of system responses to State and Commonwealth initiatives.

As Senior Consultant you will consult and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders to integrate service, support and advice to schools and the system.

You will work with your colleagues to facilitate a positive team culture and contribute to the operations of branch in accordance with the strategic directions of the public school system, legislation and Department policies and procedures.

  1. Demonstrated substantial knowledge and understanding of policies, issues and trends that relate to the State and national VET agenda, as it relates to schools and education.
  2. Demonstrated highly developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to deal with high-level consultations and negotiations and experience in the preparation of reports and briefings.
  3. Demonstrated skills and experience in planning and undertaking education projects whilst managing competing demands.
  4. Demonstrated highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to provide innovative solutions to strategic and complex problems and issues.
  5. Demonstrated high-level data management skills, including data analysis and reporting, and the ability to present data in a meaningful way.

Eligibility and Training Requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • complete
    • the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
    • training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
    • the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
