The Role and our Branch

This is an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced educator to join our Road Safety and Drug Education branch.

As the Principal Consultant, Road Safety you will work with the branch and key stakeholders to plan, develop, deliver and evaluate teaching and learning resources, professional learning programs and services that support road safety initiatives.  

You will provide expertise and strategic advice to lead the continual development of road safety education programs delivered by early childhood services, schools, and other education and training service providers across Western Australia. Your experience will also guide the delivery of quality teaching and learning practices to support road safety education.

The Road Safety and Drug Education branch delivers prevention education to keep children and young people safe. The programs are designed to contribute to the reduction of road trauma and harm from alcohol and other drug use. Its education strategies and resources support early childhood service providers, schools, parents/carers and the broader education community to implement whole-school road safety and alcohol and other drugs education programs. 

The branch sits within the Student Engagement and Wellbeing directorate of Statewide Services. The Statewide Services division which provides the services and supports required by schools to enable student achievement, with a focus on those students and schools that need it most.

  3. Demonstrated highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to provide innovative solutions to strategic and complex problems and issues that inform decision-making.
  4. Demonstrated highly developed written communication and presentation skills, including extensive experience in preparing policies, reports, briefings, general communication and responses to Ministerial requests.
  5. Demonstrated highly developed oral and interpersonal skills, including the ability to undertake high-level consultations, collaborations and negotiations and build high-level relationships, alliances and networks.

Eligibility and Training Requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • complete
    • the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
    • training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
    • the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
