Appointment Pool

Safety Bay Senior High School (SHS) are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2022 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2022 school year.

As an Education Assistant you will, under limited supervision and guidance from the Learning Support Team, perform tasks that require discretion and judgement to assist students in achieving their full potential. We strive for an inclusive school environment that caters for students with a diverse range of support needs both academically and socially.

Education Assistants are timetabled to support students and classes across a wide range of curriculum areas and departments within the school. Suitable applicants should therefore possess a high level of interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with teachers to scaffold the curriculum and provide feedback on Teaching & Learning Adjustments. It is important that applicants have a positive attitude and the ability to anticipate and adapt to change, showing initiative and flexibility to produce the best opportunities for students.

Previous experience in supporting students who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Severe Mental Health issues, Hearing Impairments, Physical Disabilities and/or Specific Learning Disorders is an advantage. You will ideally have a sound understanding of adolescents to assist with students’ general health and well-being. Knowledge of, and the ability to assist with Literacy and Numeracy Interventions, in a mainstream context is important.  As part of daily work, Education Assistants must be able to work with Word Documents, email, and iPad technology, therefore, suitable applicants will ideally have adequate IT skills.

Suitable applicants should be committed to enhancing learning opportunities for all students, able to work in a team environment, maintain confidentiality and treat staff and students alike with respect. Staff are encouraged to attend relevant, ongoing professional development sessions and some after school training and to take the initiative in seeking out further knowledge and skills to enhance their contribution to the school.

At Safety Bay SHS, we are proud of our ability to provide a high quality public education for all our students. We promote excellence in a wide array of pursuits and work with the community to build a bright future for all of our students. Our school community is committed to ensuring students strive to 'Imagine, Believe and Achieve', our school motto, which highlights our aspirational nature.

Situated on the coast 50 kilometres south of Perth, Safety Bay Senior High School is an Independent Public Secondary School catering for approximately 1260 students in Years 7 to 12.
