Are you a passionate and talented secondary Languages teacher seeking a unique opportunity to be part of a growing school?

Alkimos College is seeking to appoint a dedicated, highly competent and enthusiastic Languages teacher, with excellent interpersonal skills. The successful applicant will be committed to promoting and fostering student engagement and academic achievement in a supportive environment where success is celebrated.

Languages will be introduced at Alkimos College in 2022, to Year 7 students. This role is unique in that it gives the successful applicant the opportunity to introduce their specialist language (we are ideally seeking someone who can teach Japanese, Indonesian or Italian, however all languages will be considered) from Year 7 and build the program from the ground up. Languages will extend to Year 8 in 2023 and will then be optional from Year 9. As Languages will be taught to Year 7 only in 2022 the anticipated classroom teaching allocation will be 0.4FTE to Languages in the first year. The successful applicant will therefore teach an additional learning area in the first year, until the program expands.

An appointment to Alkimos College presents a tremendously exciting opportunity to join the staff of a new, innovative, state-of-the-art secondary college which is committed to building a culture of high performance and high care for students and staff. Alkimos College values and prioritises student relationships and mutual respect. The ability to build and maintain positive learning environments where students flourish is important for our students' success. Effective classroom management is therefore critical to this role.

The successful applicant will be a passionate teacher of Languages, with a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. Alkimos College opened in 2020 with Year 7 only and will grow one-year group at a time. The successful applicant will therefore use professional knowledge, understanding and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant secondary Languages curriculum. Recent experience in teaching Year 7 Languages is highly desirable in the context of this role. The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic adopter of a college wide instructional framework based on explicit teaching and instructional skills, strategies and tactics. They will be committed to personal and professional growth and will embrace opportunities for collaboration.

Successful applicants will possess an ability to develop innovative classroom practices and utilise ICT to provide integrated, personalised and authentic learning experiences for students. A key attribute is the ability to create environments conducive to learning and provide educational opportunities that are fun, purposeful, relevant and cater for differing student learning needs.  Commitment to the college health and well-being program (Anchor) and after-hours extra-curricular activities (Academies) will be essential, as well as active promotion of the college motto, values and vision within the college and wider community.
