Duncraig Senior High School (SHS) is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic and innovative Student Support Officer to join their dedicated Student Services Team.

The successful applicant will have strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to develop relationships across the school and wider community. You will assist with administrative processes, research, develop and introduce systems, intervention strategies and alternative programs that provide a responsive and effective support service for students, family members and staff.

You will establish and maintain professional links between the student, the family, the school and other appropriate agencies in the community, and will also support the School Administration team in crisis management by providing relevant and appropriate strategies and support, as required.

As the Student Support Officer, you will assist with the implementation of a range of school attendance strategies; attend and provide supporting information to team meetings, case conferences, and other intervention processes; maintain information and record systems and collate and prepare information used in case conferences and to develop strategies and student support programs.

A key area of this role will be to work closely with our Aboriginal students, their families and the local community and be responsible for coordinating programs, events and activities for Aboriginal students. As an active member of the School’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) committee, you will collaboratively support the further development of cultural understanding across the school.

Duncraig SHS places significant focus on the quality of the teaching and learning that takes place with a particular focus on maximising student engagement and student learning outcomes. You should have a genuine interest in working in collaboration with colleagues to support student achievement across Year 7 to Year 12. Duncraig SHS operates a 1:1 personal Information Communication Technology (ICT) device policy that is firmly embedded across all learning areas. A familiarity with SEQTA as this is the online learning management system used at Duncraig SHS, would be well regarded.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  1. Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
  2. Effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing prioritises within timelines.
  3. Good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
  4. Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
  5. Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to Commencement of employment.
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
