The Education Business Services (EBS) Division is establishing a pool of fixed term, full-time positions which may arise within our Graduate Development Program during 2021 and 2022. We may make appointments from the pool at any time during that two-year period.

We have six 24-month fixed term contracts for Graduate Officer roles, commencing January 2021.

About us

The Department of Education is Western Australia’s largest employer with approximately one third of the Government workforce in some 800 worksites across the State. EBS is a large directorate within the Department and provides professional business services and support to Western Australian public schools, statutory boards and divisions within the Department of Education. These highly valued services are delivered through the areas of Finance, Commercial Services, Infrastructure, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), and Business and Customer Services. EBS continually strives to enhance the capability and responsiveness of staff, systems and processes across the Department to deliver high quality education.

The Financial Services Directorate is responsible for a number of key finance-related functions within the Department, including financial policy and governance, financial reporting and school financial management and support.

The Financial Planning and Resourcing Directorate is responsible for a number of key finance-related functions within the Department, including overall budget and resource management, high-level strategic financial advice, school resourcing, management of the Student Centred Funding Model and financial planning.

The Commercial Services Directorate is responsible for providing procurement and commercial legal support to the Department and schools; contract planning, establishment and management; insurance and fleet management.

The Information and Communication Technologies Division is responsible for the management and delivery of the Department’s ICT-related services and functions. The Division encompasses three Directorates, being Governance and Planning Integration; Build and Deployment; and Operations and Customer Service

As well as developing your technical knowledge, skills and working with contemporary practices, you’ll learn to professionally collaborate and consult with internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to policy, plans and systems that support the State’s educational finance, purchasing or information technology and communication systems.

Recruitment process

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following: 

  • Sound oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with individuals at all levels and build effective relationships.
  • Sound research and problem solving skills and the ability to identify appropriate solutions.
  • Initiative and sound organisational skills including the ability to effectively multi task, meet deadlines and work effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to interpret and understand public sector policies and practices.

We are selecting suitable applicants using a combination of assessment methods throughout the shortlisting and further assessment stages of the recruitment process to determine your suitability for placement into the pool.   • The initial assessment will be based on your eligibility, qualifications, written submission, CV and Cognitive Testing and Personality Profiling results.
  • Further assessment will be based on the JDF selection criteria and the EBS Delivery Principles, along with examples of your skills or experience.

Once we have assessed your application, you will either progress through stages of the process or not, and at the end, suitable applicants will be placed in a recruitment pool from which the Department can select the candidates to meet business needs for the Graduate roles.

Tell us how you used your research and analytical skills, prioritised your time, worked through problems and used your communication skills to achieve results and complete the project.

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • hold a tertiary degree relevant to business, commerce, accounting, finance, ICT or related field, having graduated within the last 24 months
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
