This is a twelve (12) month fixed term, full-time position commencing as soon as possible in 2020 with possible extension (12 months).

The Pilbara Education Region seek a Program Coordinator to provide strategic leadership developing processes and procedures for individualised case management of transient students for the Mobility Strategy pilot project. We are seeking an individual who is responsive to the diverse needs, backgrounds, experiences and knowledge of Aboriginal students and their families and draws on the principles of co-design to work collaboratively with local communities. This initiative forms a part of the Pilbara Partnerships for Student Success project, funded by the Royalties for Regions.

The role of the Program Coordinator is to enhance students’ readiness to learn, improve engagement with learning and work to promote learning achievement when students move across schools and between sectors. This role will entail supporting schools in the development and implementation of individualised documented plans, teachers to deliver targeted teaching and developing systems to enable rigorous tracking and sharing of student progress to ensure students are well position to continue to learn regardless of where they are attending.

The role of Project Coordinator involves identifying project management priorities working in consultation with the Steering Committee. This role requires you to build and maintain strategic relationships with stakeholders, and to liaise and negotiate with a variety of personnel from within and external to the Department. You will be required to monitor, review and evaluate the effectiveness of project outcomes and identify continuous improvement opportunities, including developing and maintain relevant information, monitoring of human and physical resources.

This position will require travel to remote schools within the Pilbara Education Region. The successful applicant will desirably hold or obtain a current RIIVEH305E Operate and maintain a 4WD Vehicle.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  1. Extensive skills and experience in providing effective educational leadership that has led to improved education outcomes for Aboriginal students in a diverse range of school educational settings.
  2. Highly developed verbal and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to undertake high-level negotiations, consultations and collaborations and establish and maintain working relations to achieve Project objectives.
  3. Highly developed written communication and presentation skills including extensive experience in the preparation of complex reports and briefing notes.
  4. Extensive skills and experience in the development and implementation of programs, projects or strategies at a school, region or system level.
  5. Highly developed conceptual, analytical and strategy formulation skills, including the ability to provide innovative solutions to strategic and complex problems.

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • hold a recognised teaching qualification and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
