WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is seeking highly experienced Medical Administrators to fill Medical Director vacancies across multiple regions in Western Australia.

This Recruitment Pool is for Fixed Term appointments at full time and part time hours for 5 years with the possibility for extension(s).

About the Regions: The WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is the largest country health service in Australia and one of the biggest in the world, providing health services to approximately half a million people, including 45,000 Aboriginal people, over a vast 2.5 million square kilometres area.  WACHS hospitals provide a variety of health care services including primary health care, emergency and hospital services, population health, mental health, indigenous health and aged care. Our dedicated and committed staff work hard to fulfil our purpose of 'working together for a healthier country WA', to deliver health services that support the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities in rural and remote Western Australia. WACHS consists of seven regions across WA with Central Office located in Perth.

What we are looking for:

Regional Director Medical Services (RDMS)
The RDMS provides high level clinical and strategic leadership, management and governance within the region. The RDMS provides professional leadership and governance for all medical practitioners within the region with a focus on medical workforce, patient safety and quality improvement, clinical service planning, medical education and clinical research. The RDMS develops the regional health network and progresses health reform strategy.
*RDMS positions South of 26th parallel will be paid as a Consultant Year 1 – 9 as per the AMA Industrial Agreement 2016 – Schedule 1 - Table 2 - Senior Medical Practitioner – Arrangement A

Director Medical Services (DMS)
The DMS role provides day to day operational management of medical services at a regional hospital site or subregional area to ensure safe clinical delivery. You will ensure and support Medical Clinical Governance and participate in continuous quality improvement within the hospital / subregion. You will also provide support to the Regional Director Medical Services in implementing regional strategic directions and will establish and maintain collaborative and functional relationships with Contracted Clinical Service Providers to ensure seamless and timely clinical care
*DMS positions are only South of 26th parallel and will be paid as a Consultant Year 1 – 9 as per the AMA Industrial Agreement 2016 – Schedule 1 - Table 2 - Senior Medical Practitioner

Selection Criteria:

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the below key attributes:

  1. Currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner.
  2. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators or demonstrated progression towards attainment.
  3. Health management experience including the ability to proactively plan, manage resources, influence change and team participation at a strategic level.
  4. Knowledge of clinical governance within healthcare, including credentialing, scope of practice, clinical indicator management and safety and quality programs.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of professional issues and trends in the medical profession, with a focus on indigenous, rural and remote service delivery.
  6. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution.
  7. Current knowledge of legislative obligations including Equal Employment Opportunity, Disability Services, Occupational Safety and Health and Freedom of Information and how these impact on employment and service delivery.
  8. Eligible for / or in possession of a current C or C-A Class drivers licence.
