One Arm Point Remote Community School (OAPRCS) is seeking to appoint a passionate and dedicated Deputy Principal to join our friendly team.

The OAPRCS vision is to facilitate a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment where Aboriginal culture is embraced, celebrated and embedded into the school curriculum. OAPRCS has dynamic staff from various backgrounds, including a number of local Aboriginal staff who provide integral knowledge and expertise regarding students and our school's unique context.

Strong relationships with the local community and local service providers (such as the Bardi Jawi and Oorany Rangers) form the base of a collaborative and targeted approach aimed at improving outcomes across the board and ensuring the children of Ardyaloon are given every opportunity to succeed.

The Role

The successful applicant may be required to teach classes from Kindergarten to Year 12, would display excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, and also have the ability to confront complexity, challenge expectations and lead sustainable change.

In collaboration with the Principal, the Deputy Principal will provide educational leadership by promoting and modelling the school vision and values, spearheading the development and implementation of whole-school practices and leading school improvement agendas through school-based professional development. The successful applicant will maintain an unwavering commitment to trauma-informed practice and student-centred decision-making by ensuring staff are supported to develop and maintain ownership of, and responsibility for, school and community expectations.

The Deputy Principal should have a sound understanding of the Department of Education’s strategic directions, whole school planning, and be confident in evidence-based and data-informed decision making, curriculum renewal and school policy review. The OAPRCS Deputy Principal will lead many portfolios, including but not limited to Curriculum, Culturally Responsive Practice, Student Assessment (Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA), National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN), On-Entry), Reporting to Parents, Census and managing school events.

The successful applicant will have the capacity to guide curriculum and pedagogical improvement, particularly in Literacy & Numeracy, lead intervention and engagement initiatives for Students at Educational Risk (SAER) and EAL/D students, drive the school’s positive behaviour processes and help the social and emotional wellbeing of students through Protective Behaviours and the school’s Social-Emotional Learning programs.

The successful applicant will also have the capacity to coordinate OLNA, Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) and Workplace Learning in the senior high school and liaise with the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) and the School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE). The Deputy Principal will also coordinate the school’s Culture and Bardi Language Programs as well as attendance initiatives such as attendance plans, home visits and consulting with teachers and the local community.

Knowledge of the school context and the local Bardi Jawi culture would be an advantage.

Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
