About the role
We are seeking a self-motivated and committed individual to join our team as a Technical Officer – Materials in the Mid-West Gascoyne Region, based in our Geraldton office. Your primary focus will involve a combination of physical and mechanical laboratory, field and on road sampling and testing of soils, aggregates and concrete associated with road and bridge design and construction. At times there will be a requirement to undertake field work in a range of climatic conditions, so your ability to work safely in these environments will be important in this role.
You will assist the Materials Manager in providing advice to Asset and Project Management staff on materials standards and the workmanship required in maximising the performance of materials to construct road pavements and surfaces.
You will maintain records of materials location, characteristics and testing and install, calibrate and operate field and laboratory instruments and equipment. Additionally, you will be required to assist Project and Contract Managers with the review of design briefs and of consultant and contractor materials performance.

- Qualified to hold a licence in respect of radioactive substances (portable gauges – moisture and/or density)

- A covering letter outlining your relevant skill, knowledge and experience in the following three (3) selection criteria:
- broad range of geotechnical and civil construction materials testing.
- broad range of road construction and maintenance materials.
- laboratory management systems, standards and test methods, including NATA requirements and quality management principles.
