Parkwood Primary School (PS) and Bannister Creek Primary School (PS) are seeking an Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) to work across both school campuses, Parkwood PS 0.4 FTE and Banister Creek PS 0.6 FTE.
Bannister Creek PS is an Independent public school, situated in Lynwood. The school catchment draws a wonderfully rich and diverse school community which is embraced and celebrated. Our school caters for approximately 590 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 in a beautifully planned environment that focuses on providing a global perspective through sustainable opportunities. This includes a school gardening club with vegetable gardens, and an outdoor classroom on site, as well as Moort Boodja - a 6 Seasons Garden. We have 23 classrooms including 5 purpose-built Early Childhood Education (ECE) rooms, as well as a contemporary library resource centre, specialist art and music rooms and a fully enclosed undercover area. Our parents and carers are actively engaged in the school through our School Board, P&C, Baldja Waangkiny, our Aboriginal Parent Liaison Group and a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) Parent Group.
Parkwood PS opened in 1975 and is at the eastern end of the Fremantle-Peel Education District, 2.5kn from Bannister Creek PS. The school sits adjacent to Lynwood Senior High School. Our students enjoy quality facilities, equipment, and resources to enhance their learning experiences. Our school has a current enrolment of approximately 620 students with 80 of these in our Intensive English Centre. We are developing our cultural responsive processes and plans.

The Role
The Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for our Indigenous students. As a liaison between the schools and community, the AIEO works closely with teachers, students and families to develop culturally relevant educational programs that empower our Indigenous students to reach their full potential.
The successful applicant would ideally have a good understanding of Noongar language and culture and would be prepared to complete the Noongar Language Program training.
Through mentoring and pastoral care, the AIEO provides support and guidance to Indigenous students, particularly those at risk, to encourage participation and achievement in the classroom. With a deep understanding of Indigenous culture and history, the AIEO brings a unique perspective to the school community, promoting respect, understanding and harmony.
In addition to providing support to teachers and students, the AIEO also works closely with the local Indigenous community to facilitate their involvement in shaping school policies and programs. They also conduct home visits to discuss the academic progress or social development of students and provide orientation to staff about the Indigenous community.

- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs to students.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.
