Aveley Secondary College (SC) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Technical Support Officer with expert knowledge of digital technology systems to join their support team.
As Technical Support Officer you will maintain networked information technology resources effectively and efficiently, to maximise educational and administrative outcomes within the Department of Education’s asset management and security regulatory framework.
The successful applicant will ideally have recent experience in a school setting, with a sound understanding of Standard Operating Environment 4 (SOE4) and experience working with the SSS and Dashboard. In this role, applicants will work with the Manager of Technology and Communication in maintaining a large stock of computers and laptops in the computer labs, learning areas and offices. Experience in the school context and with Compass, Google Workspace, Office 365 (or similar platforms) and knowledge of media or theatre devices would be highly regarded.
Successful applicants should be able to troubleshoot and provide support to students and staff members including desktop and software application and access to systems and resources. Supporting the installation and management using ZuluDesk of student BYOD iPads, staff, and student loan iPads will be a key part of this role. The successful applicant should provide input on system enhancements and implement new systems through research and identification of appropriate information technology resources.
Aveley SC opened in 2018 with an inaugural enrolment of 260 students in Year 7. The College has an expected 2023 enrolment of over 1590 students with the addition of our final Year 12 cohort. Our facilities also include a dedicated specialist Education Support Hub and staff for students with high needs. With the opening of our stage 2 build this year the college now boasts superior Visual and Performing Arts facilities.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with staff at all levels.
- Conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to develop innovative solutions to information technology problems.
- Ability to install and maintain network systems incorporating the Internet and Electronic Mail.
- Organisational skills to develop effective administrative practices and the initiative to work with minimum supervision.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
