Geraldton Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a caring and supportive individual to join their high quality regional school as an Education Support Teacher.

Teachers and school administrators employed at Geraldton Senior High School in 2024 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $5,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.
About the role
We are seeking an applicant who would be familiar with or possess knowledge about working with students with a range of disabilities and are able to implementation a range of strategies to support and enhance individual learning and development in all areas.
Our teachers plan, program, and assess collaboratively using an integrated curriculum, differentiated to meet individual student needs. The successful applicant will ideally have highly effective teaching practices, an ability to self-reflect and a willingness to seek constant improvement in their own practice. All students show progress and achievement in their learning against their individualised learning plans and programs.
A knowledge and understanding of explicit teaching strategies and evidence based practises for supporting student with disabilities, and applying appropriate interventions is an advantage. The ideal applicant should be flexible, have good interpersonal and communication skills, a commitment to professional learning and a high-level of participation in collaborative team planning. As a teacher in an education support environment, you should positively manage a team of education assistants to create a safe and supportive learning environment for your students.
You will also be case managing students who attend the SEN class.

The Location and Community
The City of Greater Geraldton (CGG) is one of 9 regions of WA and has much to offer in terms of sport, culture, and tourism. With a population of approximately 40,000, the CGG covers an area of approximately 472,000 square kilometres and includes the towns of Mullewa and Walkaway. Apart from the significant sporting and cultural activities on offer, Geraldton itself is renowned for its quality lifestyle. Geraldton is the centre of the WA rock lobster industry along with the productive agricultural region that extends to the north, south and east of the city. An important part of the town is the Geraldton Port Authority which is responsible for moving a significant variety of produce such as grain, mineral sands, iron ore and other goods. During the wildflower season, the outlying areas of Geraldton are renowned for their stunning wildflowers.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements.
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
