What will your typical day look like?

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is seeking to establish a qualified pool of Research Scientists to work within the Aquatic Science and Assessment branch of the Sustainability and Biosecurity pillar. The pool will be used to fill permanent and fixed term, full time and part time positions which may become available within the subsequent 12 months.

As a Research Scientist with DPIRD, your key responsibilities will be to undertake fisheries-related scientific research and support developing projects, including budgeting and management. Furthermore, successful applicants may be required to lead and undertake field surveys, manage support staff, and under direct supervision, validate, process, and analyse data (using a variety of analysis techniques and programs).

The successful applicant will have a broad knowledge of fisheries and marine ecosystems/aquaculture, advanced technical knowledge, sound communication skills and the capability to publish scientific reports and papers. Additionally, you will be required to liaise with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Am I eligible to apply?

To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period as part of your application.

You will be required to provide a current National Police Certificate (police clearance) before commencing employment.

Special Requirements for this position:
