Student Support Services – Statewide Services are seeking experienced Senior Consultants who are committed to achieving the best educational outcome for students.

We currently have the following positions available in the Disability Services and Support Branch.

  • Two (2) – Ten (10 month) fixed term, full-time positions with possible extension

All positions will commence ASAP

The Disability Services and Support Branch is a dynamic team responsible for the strategic management and coordination of policy, resourcing, and state wide services and supports for students with disability. The Disability Services and Support team work collaboratively on a range of National and State priorities as they arise, and work as part of an integrated Student Support Services Directorate within the collaborative structures of Statewide Services.

As a Senior Consultant you will be required to assist with the development, monitoring, evaluation and communication of strategies, policies, procedures and guidelines in order to provide support to public schools. Your ability to work both collaboratively and independently in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and contribute to the work of the branch in a range of areas is vital to this role.

The Disability Services and Support branch is committed to improving outcomes for students with disability and engages collaboratively with Western Australian public schools to achieve successful outcomes for students with disability. The work of the branch aligns to the Department of Education’s Strategic Plan and supports the implementation of strategic, collaborative projects reflecting contemporary practice and state and national initiatives. As Senior Consultant, you will contribute your knowledge, conceptual, organisational and planning skills to the delivery of national disability projects and initiatives such as the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on school students with disability, National Disability Insurance Scheme and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder.

The Disability Services and Support Branch provides strategic management and coordination of policy, resourcing, services and support for students with disability. The goals of the branch are:

  • all students with disability have access to a program aligned with their learning needs
  • all students with disability are able to participate in the full school experience
  • all students with disability transition into meaningful post school options
  • there are demonstrable improvements in standards of achievement for students with disability
  • parents/families and other stakeholders have high levels of satisfaction with the education provided for students with disability.

Successful applicants will assist in the development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and communication of strategies, policies, procedures and guidelines related to improving outcomes for students with additional needs.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  1. Knowledge and understanding of the current legislation, policies, processes and issues associated with students with additional needs and experience in effectively applying that understanding.
  2. Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to deal effectively with change and generate innovative solutions.
  3. Highly developed verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build partnerships and integrate services both within and beyond the Department.
  4. Highly developed written communication skills, including experience in the preparation of reports, correspondence, Ministerials and briefings.
  5. Highly developed planning and organisational skills, including the ability to identify priorities and meet deadlines.

  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
