Appointment Pool
Advertised Vacancy Number: SS/TCH646621
Curtin Primary School (PS) are seeking to establish a pool of K-6 Teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year.
Curtin PS is a very family orientated school and we are often referred to as being like “a country school in the heart of the city”. As a small school, everyone knows everyone, and all are made to feel welcomed. We encourage students of all ages to work and play together, and offer them many opportunities to do so throughout the day. We feel privileged to have such beautiful grounds and to be surrounded by natural bushlands. We teach our children to value nature and have a strong belief in protecting our environment for future generations.
We are currently developing a new Vision and Strategic Plan that is very much focused on developing a sense of ‘place’. We intend to do this by implementing teaching and learning practices which; integrate the curriculum, connect learning to real life experiences, use flexible learning environments, and cater for a diverse range of students.
In building a sense of ‘place’ suitable applicants will be expected to develop strong working relationships with the entire school community, recognise and celebrate our cultural diversity, help our community to appreciate and respect our physical environment, and care for the social and emotional wellbeing of all. Suitable applicants will be expected to promote our school vision in everything they do.
In addition, suitable applicants should be committed to supporting whole school practices in Literacy and Numeracy. Over recent years Curtin PS has established consistent whole school approaches in Literacy based around Deslea Khoza’s ‘Big Six’, and an explicit teaching framework. Our Numeracy practices follow a similar framework and strongly rely on resources of Dr Paul Swan. As a Positive Behaviour Strategies (PBS) school you will need to have a strong belief in the principles of PBS and the flexibility to adapt if presented with challenging behaviours. An interest in Sustainability and the integration of technology across the curriculum would be welcomed.
Suitable applicants will ideally have a growth mindset and a willingness to work collaboratively with both teachers and school leaders. They will need to support school improvement through participation in Teaching Sprints (Professional Learning Communities), and by contributing to school committees. Flexibility and the ability to change and adapt, is essential when working in a small school.
The Early Childhood Education staff at Curtin PS will ideally have a commitment to improvement through the National Quality Standards Framework (NQSF), and a good working knowledge of how to explicitly teach the Early Years Curriculum, through themes/topics and play. An interest in nature-based play and sustainability would be welcomed.
Vacancies may arise during the life of this pool that require specialist qualifications (for example vacancies within Early Childhood Education). Only applicants, in the pool, possessing the required qualifications will be considered for appointment in these circumstances.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

Applications will be assessed against these domains. The business needs of the school may also be considered. It is therefore recommended that you consider all information contained in the advertisement and any other related information before applying for the vacancy.
